Walid Raad: “Let’s Be Honest, the Weather Helped” (1998)
This photograph is only one of many photographs where Lebanese artist Walid Raad documents the different countries that participated ‘indirectly’ in the Lebanese Civil War (1975-1990). In this photograph bullet holes are coloured in hues that each corresponds to a country that produced bullets and sold them in Lebanon. 23 countries armed the Lebanese Civil War, some of which are France, Israel, the USA, China, Saudi Arabia, and the U.K.
